Abstract
Using a dye dilution technique, blood flow was measured in the right and left renal veins in 12 patients with portal hypertension. There was evidence of spontaneous shunts to the left renal vein in all cases and at least in 4 cases to the right one. Spontaneous portal systemic shunts other than via esophageal varices is probably much higher than hitherto known. Keywords
