Changing Patterns of Remarriage in Canada, 1961-1966

Abstract
An analysis of gross and net remarriage tables prepared for the widowed and the divorced populations in Canada reveals that the remarriage chances are in favor of males as compared to females. Among the females, the widowed stood better chances of remarriage in comparison to the divorcees. It is deduced that the high incidence of adherence to Catholic teachings and an unfavorable distribution with regard to available partners in the marriage market are the probable explanations for this phenomenon.
