Abstract
Using a special hammering device, expts. on 305 workers have been carried out to determine whether or not the threshold stimulus for the Achilles tendon reflex could be used as a test for both physical and mental fatigue, the threshold stimulus for the knee jerk and the double point threshold having been measured at the same time for comparison. The threshold stimulus for the Achilles tendon reflex is raised after either physical or mental work both in the daytime and at night. As the working hour goes by, the threshold stimulus for the Achilles tendon reflex increases in parallel with the threshold stimulus for the knee jerk. Accordingly, the threshold stimulus of the Achilles tendon reflex may be used as a test for measuring physical and mental fatigues. It seems to be particularly suited for the study of group fatigue, such as industrial fatigue.
