Abstract
Tunneling experiments on single crystals of the (PbxBi1-x)2Sr2CaCu2O8 compound have been performed with the aid of a low temperature tunneling microscope. Tunneling in the crystal c-axis direction resulted in a parabolic current-voltage dependence for voltages up to 0.2 V, unless the tungsten tip was pushed into the crystal. By changing the configuration to perpendicular to the c-axis, clear energy gap effects were observed. Tunneling between two crystals resulted in conductivity characteristic to a Superconductor-Insulator-Superconductor (SIS) junction. Keywords
