Neurogenic tumor of the rectum

Abstract
The case report of a 45-year-old woman with a painful rectal nodule is presented. Excision of this nodule resulted in complete relief of symptoms and examination of the tumor revealed a neurogenic tumor of the rectum. A brief review of the literature revealed ten other cases of neurogenic tumors of the rectum. This lesion must be considered in the differential diagnosis of subcutaneous nodules of the rectum. The tumor may be a solitary nodule or may occur as a part of generalized neurofibromatosis.
