Cortisone and Experimental Amebiasis in the Rat

Abstract
Comparison of the average degree of infection in untreated rats with that in rats treated with cortisone (1 to 12.5 mg daily for 5 - 8 days), all inoculated with trophozoites of strain C2 or strain 200J of E. histolytica, failed to reveal any significant difference in susceptibility among weanling rats or older animals. It is concluded that none of the mechanisms through which cortisone decreases host resistance against other types of infections has any marked influence upon the development and course of experimental amebiasis in the rat.
