Abstract
The 5s25p45d+5s25p46s+5s5p6 levels of Xe II have been investigated theoretically taking into account configuration-interaction effects. It has been shown that some observed energy levels of the 5p45d configuration are not correctly designated. The calculated energies of the 6s and 5d levels are improved considerably by introducing configuration interaction into the calculations. Several levels of the 5p46s and 5p45d configurations are significantly perturbed through mutual configuration interaction. A strong interaction between the 5p45d and 5s5p6 configurations is also reported. The energy parameters obtained from a least-squares fit between observed and calculated energy levels are compared with parametrised central-field calculations. Keywords
