Design and fabrication of a digital correlator

Abstract
An inexpensive, simple and versatile digital photon correlator has been designed and fabricated with numerous applications in the areas of Doppler velocimetry, photon statistics, biology, and medicine. This sixty-four channel expandable correlator is operated by a 1 MHz clock and utilises a 1 k RAM for storing the correlation data. These stored data are finally displayed along with the channel number for 4 s by seven segment LEDs. Provision has been made to redisplay the memory as many times as desired until the RAM is cleared. The equipment has a built-in photon counter for counting the rates of photomultiplier tubes.
