Abstract
Free and conjugated phenols were detd. by Schmidt''s method in blood samples obtained from patients diagnosed as having or developing the ur-emic syndrome from renal disfunction. Although an increase was noted in free, conjugated and total phenols, it was not significant enough to warrant their consideration as important factors in the uremic syndrome. Many methods employed in previous reports give reason to doubt the validity of conclusions drawn concerning relationship of true phenols to the uremic syndrome.
