Abstract
A modified split Hopkinson bar has been developed for the measurement of dynamic stress-strain relationships at strain rates up to 105 s-1 and for true strains greater than 2.0. The normal input bar has been removed and a hardened projectile allowed to impact the specimen directly. Specimen strain is measured independently by measuring the position of the back end of the projectile using a coaxial capacitor. A new circuit for measuring rapid capacitance changes is described. Keywords
