Abstract
To the Editor: During the past three years I have developed projections for cardiac-surgery volumes in the United States. In connection with this effort, I have reviewed national trends in coronary-artery bypass volumes. I was surprised to learn that data published in the Journal 1 by Kennedy et al. (Oct. 14, 1982, issue) are at variance with the data I reviewed.I obtained summary analyses of data on the volume of coronary-artery bypass surgery, collected by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) Hospital Discharge Survey, from two different government agencies (Thom TJ: personal communication; Kubishke K: personal communication).
