Abstract
20 patients with obstinate urinary tract infections were treated with pivampicillin chloride for 8 days. Of the 18 patients suitable for evaluation, 89% showed bacteriological improvement. The results compare well with those in comparative groups treated with ampicillin. Gastrointestinal side effects can be prevented by giving pivampicillin chloride at mealtimes. Side effects then occur with the same frequency as in ampicillin treatment. We registered side effects in 2 patients when the drug was taken as prescribed. Keywords
