Abstract
We present a method to examine Koba-Nielsen-Olesen (KNO) scaling for hadron-nucleus collisions in connection with measurements of the average charged multiplicity and inelastic total cross sections. It is shown that the assumption of a universal KNO scaling curve for the multiplicity distributions turns out to be inconsistent with experimental evidence concerning dependence of the absorption cross section and the nuclear multiplicity ratio.
