Abstract
AS in many other parts of the country, nursing homes in Massachusetts are experiencing a period of rapid transition. Significant developments affecting the number, structure and composition of nursing homes are under way, with important consequences for patients and their needs.Every nursing home in the Commonwealth, regardless of type of ownership, is subject to regulation by several public agencies. The Department of Public Health has the basic responsibility for licensure, and the licenses it issues are renewable each year.
