Abstract
The dissociation constants (pK1, pK2) of 6-substituted thiouracils and uracils were determined by the spectrophotometric method. pK1 values of thiouracils were lower than those of the corresponding uracils. The effect of substituents in 6-position of these compounds was examined. Amino and phenyl groups, compared with alkyl group, decreases pK1 values. The reaction of thiouracils with H2O2 was studied by the reaction kinetics. Thiouracils were finally converted to the corresponding uracils by H2O2. Therefore, the first-order reaction constants were determined and the effect of substituents in 6-position of thiouracils was examined. The optimal experimental conditions were established for utilizing the above reaction to the quantitative determination of thiouracils. Keywords
