Abstract
Canister deposits containing over 98% silica occur in the Brunner Coal Measures of the Greymouth Coalfield, but rapid variations in silica content and the trgh cost of access preclude their use in the foreseeable future.Over 600,000 tons of less pure (85%–98%) quartzite is present at Reefton. Quartz sands investigated at Charleston, Ross, and Kaiata are insufficiently pure to be used in their present form as either glass or moulding sands
