Abstract
In splenectomized patients who had hepatic disease tyrosine was converted to p-hydroxyphenylpyruvic acid (HP) which appeared in the urine. In one case HP appeared spontaneously. Apparently the slightly damaged liver can metabolize tyrosine normally when the spleen is present, but not when it is absent. Keywords
