Myocardial ischaemia and cardiopulmonary bypass

Abstract
The effects of intermittent and continuous myocardial ischaemia for a total duration of 45 min during hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass were investigated by ventricular function curves and tension—velocity relations. On the basis of retention of left ventricular hydraulic output power capacity, intermittent myocardial anoxia provided a significant advantage in preservation of function.
