Abstract
A recent theory of scattering from shallow perfectly conducting surfaces is used to investigate some fundamental properties of the speckle pattern generated by random rough surfaces. First, the introduction of a canonical problem shows that the statistical properties of the speckle only depend on two independent parameters. A numerical study of the influence of these parameters is made for gaussian correlation. Then, a theoretical and numerical study of the connection between the correlation function of the surface and the pattern intensity is given. Finally, we show that our numerical, results satisfy some laws established in optics and verified by experimentalists. Keywords
