Observations on the Behaviour of Plasma-Insulin-Activity in Obese Type Diabetes

Abstract
The behavior of plasma-insulin activity has been studied in 2 groups of obese type diabetics, never treated and on insulin treatment, respectively, by means of the diaphragm test and by direct comparison with the plasma of normal subjects. Both groups showed a plasma-insulin activity lower than that of the normal control subjects, and this reduction is attributed to the presence of insulin antagonists in the blood. Furthermore, it has been observed that the plasma-insulin activity is depressed on increasing the glycemic level. The significance of these observations within the framework of present knowledge regarding the diabetic syndrome is then discussed.
