Abstract
Parathyroid function was studied in rats by detn. of the changes produced immediately after parathyroid removal. Phosphate excretion by the kidney was markedly reduced within 1 hr. after parathyroidectomy. This impairment of phosphate excretion is apparent in rats flooded with either Ca or phosphate ions after removal of the parathyroids. It is concluded, therefore, that in the rat the parathyroids at least in part control phosphate and Ca metabolism by a direct action on kidney excretion of phosphate. Keywords
