A Study of Murine Typhus Fever in Coffee County, Alabama

Abstract
The human morbidity rate from murine typhus fever in Coffee Co. in 1943 was 500 per 100,000 population. There were 2 deaths. 135 of 177 serums were serologically positive. More [male][male] than [female] [female] were attacked and there were 2 peaks of incidence[long dash]July and Oct. A widespread typhus infection in rats in the rural areas was indicated by serologic tests on blood specimens. The infection was directly proportional to infestation with Xenopsylla cheopis.
