Studies on the Human Dandruff Allergen

Abstract
The chemical fractionation of an aqueous extract of defatted human dandruff from the scalp has been described. The extract was found to contain about 75% of non-allergenic acid mucopolysaccharides. A description is given of the partial purification of the human dandruff allergen. A study of the electrophoretic behaviour of the extract and its component fractions revealed that the purified allergen is contaminated with at least two different polypeptides. The evidence obtained indicates the specific human dandruff allergen to be a glycoprotein.
