Callus cultures from potato tissues and the exclusion of potato virus X from plants regenerated from stem tips

Abstract
Callus cultures were established from shoot and root tips and from stem, leaf, and tuber tissue of potato infected with potato virus X. Roots developed in callus from all sources, but shoots developed only in callus from shoot and stem sections. Of 37 plants which originated from shoot tips 0.5 mm long, 17 were free of the virus.
