Abstract
(a) Alkali ions striking surfaces of platinum, copper, and aluminium give a characteristic radiation of the line spectrum of the alkali atom. The luminous layer sits on the surface as a thin skin. (b) The influence of the surface conditions of the bombarded metal of the intensity of the current and of the velocity of the positive ions upon this radiation have been studied. (c) A possible explanation of the origin of this radiation is given.
