Abstract
Steady calibration is provided by the use of a turntable on which a dish of calibrating fluid is mounted; the probe is dipped into the moving fluid and a range of velocities is obtainable by varying turntable speed and radial position of the probe. Unsteady velocity calibrations are obtained by attaching the probe to an oscillating mount, producing components of oscillatory and steady relative motion between probe and fluid. Checks have been made on the validity of the method, which has been used in the evaluation of hot-film anemometer systems for intra-arterial blood flow studies.Keywords
