Abstract
The equation of state of solids and the Grüneisen constant are interrelated and these can further be explicitly expressed in terms of the parameters of the interatomic potential and other simple constants. Calculations have been performed in this paper for these quantities on the familiar Born and Born—Mayer potentials. In general, the results reported here on alkali halides exhibit a good qualitative agreement between theory and experiment. This, however, is encouraging in view of the simple and approximate nature of the theory. Keywords
