Metabolic Effects of Testosterone Propionate in Addison's Disease12

Abstract
A [male] and a [female] with Addison''s disease, maintained in good condition by salt supplements and by daily injs. of desoxycorticosterone acetate, were given testosterone propionate intramusc, 25 mg. daily. The characteristic metabolic effects of the androgen, including depression of urinary N, inorganic P, sulfate, Na, K and creatine, with gains in body wt. were well seen. The B.M.R., fasting R.Q. and concs. of serum electrolytes were unaltered within the time studied. No reason was adduced for supposing that the adrenal cortex is a necessary intermediary organ in the metabolic response to testosterone propionate in man.
