Abstract
Diimide has been prepared by decomposition of hydrazine with a microwave discharge, and the infrared spectrum of the solid and gas obtained. The spectrum of the solid at liquid nitrogen temperature agrees with the planar structure predicted for diimide, and the molecule appears to be principally in the cis form. Frequency assignments of the observed bands have been made. The structure of the molecule in the gaseous state cannot be unambiguously determined from the spectrum. Keywords
