Abstract
Using the thermodynamic theory of relaxation processes, and incorporating the disorder model of melting mechanism in the two-state theory, the ultrasonic attenuation in simple liquid metals has been investigated. Agreement of the results with the experimental bulk viscosity indicates that this might be a genuine approach to explain the excess absorption of ultrasonic waves in monatomic fluids. The possibility of extending the theory to other associated liquids with complex structures is also discussed. Keywords
