The 40–50 Day Oscillation and the El Niño/Southern Oscillation: A New Perspective

Abstract
The tropical Ocean-atmosphere exhibits two prominent modes of low-frequency oscillations, i.e., the “40-50” day oscillation and the El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO). The two phenomena are viewed in the same perspective from 10 years of satellite-derived out-going-longwave-radiation data. Results reveal some interesting features that may lead to new insights into the understanding of the two phenomena.
