Abstract
V. fetus can be grown in bulk in broth in a closed system of gases circulated through the medium. The gases are mixed in the ratio 35% air, 5% CO2, 10% H2, and 50% He. The apparatus is described. During growth in this manner, O2 and H2 concentrations in the system are decreased and the CO2 concentration is increased. The lag phase is reduced 8 to 10 hours below that of present methods. The rate of growth and total yields are increased by a factor of 2.Keywords
