Abstract
The properties of the carbonaceous mesophase are reviewed and some results concerning acenaphthylene pyrolysis are presented. Liquid crystals with disc-like molecules are described and we present a new molecule which exhibits a molecular organization similar to that of the carbonaceous mesophase. Keywords
