Broadband silica-based optical waveguide coupler with asymmetric structure

Abstract

Waveguide-type directional couplers with different waveguide widths in the coupling region are fabricated based on high silica on Si technologies. These asymmetric couplers show wavelength-flattened coupling ratios of 50% ± 5% over the 1.2 μm –1.6μm wavelength range.
