Abstract
In 1960 the Division of Health Education of the American Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation under the divisional vice-presidency of Edward B. Johns appointed a Commission on Philosophy for School Health Education. It was the task of this Commission to prepare a statement of “health education principles that are fundamental to curriculum development” or to develop a “statement of beliefs for the whole field of health education to serve as a platform for the field.” To this end the Commission addressed itself and early in its deliberations became convinced that it would be impossible to develop a “philosophy for health education” as something different from a philosophy of education itself. Thus the Commission has prepared “A Point of View for School Health Education” which it hopes will serve as an appropriate guide for teachers, administrators, and others interested in the field of health education. Keywords
