Treatment of Experimental Intestinal Trichinosis with 1-Diethylcarbamyl-4-Methylpiperazine Hydrochloride (Hetrazan)

Abstract
White mice weighing 150-175 g. were fed, by stomach tube, 1000 to 1300 infective trichina larvae. 24 hrs. later, Hetrazan was administered by the same route, 3 times daily, at a dosage of 200 mg. per kg. wt., for 5-10 days. The drug reduced the av. number of worms recovered at 5 days from 481 in untreated animals to 91 in treated animals. Fewer larvae were recovered from the muscles of the treated than from the untreated animals.
