Abstract
COMPARED WITH adults and larger pediatric patients, infants with end-stage renal disease are the most challenging subgroup of patients undergoing renal transplantation. They are at the highest risk for early graft loss, and have been reported to consistently have a higher mortality rate.1 With dialysis and without transplantation, however, these patients have an even higher mortality rate (14% at 1 year and 25% at 2 years) because of accompanying comorbid factors and difficulty maintaining long-term dialysis access.2,3Keywords
