The life history of Microspongium sp.

Abstract
The life history of Microspongium sp. was completed in culture. Spores from unilocular sporangia gave rise to a Scytosiphon-like thallus, and those from plurilocular sporangia of the latter developed asexually into a crustose stage. The life history is therefore similar to that of Ralfsia clavata and R. borneti (Edelstein et al., 1970). These results support the observations made in nature by Lund (1966) that a Scytosiphon-like thallus is an alternate stage in the life history of Microspongium.
