A review of the New Zealand arminacean nudibranchs (Opisthobranchia: Arminacea)

Abstract
Eleven species of Arminacea are recorded here from New Zealand, three belong to the Arminidae and the rest to the Zephyrinidae. Five are new species: Armina aoteana; Dermato-branchus pulcherrimus; Janolus ignis; J. mokohinau; J. eximius. A thorough redescription of J. novozealandicus (Eliot, 1907) is provided. J. hyalinus (Alder & Hancock, 1854), a European and Mediterranean species, is newly recorded from New Zealand waters, thus confirming its (cool-temperate) cosmopolitan distribution. Galeojanolus ionnae Miller, 1971 is more widespread in New Zealand than originally appreciated. Additional locality records are supplied for Caldukia albolineata Miller, 1970 and C. rubiginosa Miller, 1970.
