Abstract
In an isolated location, 16 colonies of bees were inoculated with Bacillus larvae by inserting sections of comb containing at least 50 dead, diseased larval scales. Four colonies were Italian, 12 Rauchfuss Caucasian. Except 1, all colonies contracting the disease died from it. This Caucasian colony recovered after having contained more than 50 dead, diseased larvae outside the area of the inoculating comb. Permanence of recovery is not assured. There is no evidence of true immunity or true resistance. The adult bees remove the dead larval scales by gnawing away the lower sides of the cell and the contained scale. The recovered colony has been apparently healthy for more than a yr.This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
