Abstract
It is possible to breed mice selectively for susceptibility and resistance to initiation and promotion. (Of two lines of mice which'' have been bred, one is highly susceptible to skin tumor formation; the other is resistant thereto.) There are qualitative differences between the natures of the initiation and promotion processes. Furthermpre, factors capable of modifying promotion have no influence on initiation. The formation process of benign and malignant skin tumors is divisible into 3 distinct operational steps. Keywords
