Abstract
THE physician who is caring for the female patient with chronic ulcerative colitis is occasionally asked about the advisability of child-bearing. Again, he may have the problem of treating a pregnant patient with colitis and must prognosticate concerning the effect on the mother and fetus. There is relatively little information on this subject, and the opinions expressed are conflicting.1 2 3 4 5 6 The purpose of this report has been to review those cases of ulcerative colitis and pregnancy that have been encountered at the Lahey Clinic.
