Human Growth Hormone in the Treatment of Fresh Fractures

Abstract
Patients (12) with fresh fractures of the lower leg were treated with HGH [human growth hormone] 16 I.U. i.m. every 2nd day during 5 wk in addition to orthopedic treatment. Bony union ensued in 11 of 12 patients. The time required for consolidation to take place was 8-12 wk in 7 patients, 13-16 wk in 4 patients and more than 16 wk in 1 patient. In the control group of 8 patients the time required for consolidation was 8-12 wk in 1 patient, 13-16 wk in 6 patients and more than 16 wk in 1 patient.
