Abstract
A discussion of mediation variables in general with particular reference to the status of intervening variables and hypothetical constructs. Particular attention is given to clarifying certain misconceptions concerning the nature of intervening variables and hypothetical constructs that arose after the publication of the 1948 paper on the subject by MacCorquodale and Meehl. Keywords
