Abstract
A general expression for the response function is derived by the method of recurrence relations. Memory effects appear as corrections to the dynamic random-phase-approximation form. The dynamic structure for the three-dimensional electron gas is calculated to third order and compared with Al data at a large wave vector. Also shown is the dynamic local-field term. Keywords
