Abstract

A motional electric-field quenching technique has been employed to measure the Lamb shift (

S

) in the

n = 2

state of

O^{7 +}

. The result is

S = 2202.7 \pm 11.0

GHz, in agreement with the recent quantum-electrodynamic calculation of

S = 2205.17 \pm 1.56

GHz.
