Abstract
Primary hypothalamic and primary nephrogenic diabetes insipidus have been reported associated with bilateral hydronephrosis. Frequently, serial tests of renal function have not been performed. Hydronephrotic atrophy and a decline in renal function have been documented in some cases. However, it is not clear that a severe progressive decline in renal function occurs. There is no case of diabetes insipidus known to have required dialysis or renal transplantation. Seven cases of diabetes insipidus with hydronephrosis were followed for an average of 12 1/2 yr. One patient had primary polydipsic diabetes insipidus, 1 patient had hypothalamic diabetes insipidus and 5 patients had primary nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. This publication has 42 references indexed in Scilit:
