Abstract
The morphological relationships of Japanese species of Laminaria (Phaeophyta) were assessed using multivariate analyses. The 13 previously recognized species were represented by 19 population samples from Hokkaido. Analyses of these samples suggested the existence of five distinct morphological forms. The clustering of these forms and their specific composition were generally compatible with the more classical taxonomy of this genus. Each form had a distinctive distribution through the three biogeographical provinces, which are defined by temperature regimes, recognized for the Hokkaido shores. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
