The Reproducibility of the Manganese Dioxide Electrode and the Change of Electrode Potential with pH

Abstract
The reproducibility and constancy of manganese dioxide electrodes with ammonium chloride electrolyte were improved by pretreatment of the dioxide with ammonia, the dioxide used having acid properties. The electrode potential of such electrodes varies not only with pH, but also with the concentration of ammonium ion or free ammonia. The apparent change with pH when the ammonium chloride concentration is constant is larger than 0.059 pH.
