Abstract
An analysis of 5,223 women was made to find out the average length of the reproductive period in Ceylonese women. The average age at puberty was 13-39 years (S. D. 1.2 years). The average age at menarche in the high-income group was lower than in the low-income group, showing that income level and standards of living play a greater part than other factors such as climate, racial characteristics, etc. The average age at marriage was 20.5 years; women in rural and estate areas, however, married between 15 and 19 years. Average age at menopause in rural women was 47.4 years, and in the urban women 49.8 years. The average fertility period was a minimum of 25 years and a maximum of 35 years. Keywords
